Deep Tissue Massage
Deep tissue massage as its name says, focuses on the
deeper layers of muscles to release chronic tension in
the body by applying slow strokes and firm finger
pressure areas that are contracted by going across the
muscle fibres or tendons. By applying these slow, deep
strokes across the grain of the muscles, Deep Tissue
Massage can help break up and eliminate scar tissue.
Designed to reach the deep sections of the thick muscles,
specifically the indivual muscle fibres that are
'stressed'. Stressed muscles generally are more tense
which block oxygen flow and nutrients that can lead to
inflammation and lead to a further build up of toxins in
the muscle tissue. So this massage technique "unsticks'
the muscle fibres and aides in releasing the toxins in
areas that are deeply-held with tension.
This is both corrective and therapeutic, which makes it
particularly benefical for many physical problems,
including sports injuries and chronic pain. Drinking
plenty of water also helps to eliminate toxins from the
body, so it is important to consume plenty of water after
a deep tissue massage to help this process.
